Governors

The main role of the governing body is to help raise the standards and performance of the school by supporting the work of the headteacher and the staff. Governors will support and, at the same time, challenge the headteacher by gathering views, asking questions and deciding what is best for the school.

Governors make important decisions on policies and strategies and have to stand by their decisions. The governing body is answerable to parents and the wider community. Governors are required to play an active part in the decision making process of the school, getting involved in real issues.

If you are interested in becoming a governor and have what it takes to make a difference, then getting involved and finding out more is easy: click on the link below, talk to someone who is a governor or ask at the school office.

 Our Governing Body

Catherine Dale

Co-opted Governor

Chair of the Governing Body

My name is Catherine Dale and I am currently Chair of Governors. I have been a governor since 2008, my son was a pupil here at the school. As a parent, I feel that Hunloke Park has brought so many lovely childhood memories, notably in 2012 seeing the Olympic torch, planting trees on Chatsworth Estate for Diamond Jubilee Year, sports days at Tupton Hall School and learning to play Taiko Japanese drums as part of sport and music collaborations with other local schools.

Hunloke Park is currently rated an OFSTED ‘good’ school and is working towards being ‘outstanding’. The dedicated commitment of the Headteacher, Leadership Management Team, teachers, support staff, Governors and all who contribute on a daily basis strive to ensure good academic achievements as well as the emotional happiness and well-being of the children.

I live and work locally. I work in education and my eldest son is having a wonderful time at Hunloke Park Primary School. I want to help Hunloke to be as good a school as it can be and want to work with the staff to deliver an excellent education for all our children. Outside of work, I enjoy sport and travel and spending time with my wife, sons, family and friends.

Malcolm Johnstone

Co-opted Governor

I have lived in Wingerworth for the past 50 years. I am married to Marilyn and we have a son, daughter in law and a grandchild. I was a teacher in a local secondary school for four years after leaving college. I moved to primary school, teaching in three local schools, and became a headteacher of two large primary schools for a period of twenty two years. Twelve years ago, I became a lead inspector of schools working for Ofsted in primary and nursery schools across England. I retired in May, 2015. I have played football and cricket for local teams and coached Chesterfield boys under 15 football teams for a number of years in the early 1970s. I play golf, having been a member of Stanedge, Matlock and currently, South Chesterfield Golf club. I now want to use the expertise I have built up in education to help benefit a local school.

Ian Smith

Co-opted Governor

I have been a parent at school now for two years having a daughter in Y2. My wife also works in the school kitchen therefore I have very close connections to Hunloke Park. As a practicing primary school teacher, I have experience of teaching a number of different year groups, with particular emphasis in Y6. I am a middle leader in my own school having responsibilities for assessment and English although I specialise in mathematics and computing. I have also undertaken the role of assistant Headteacher and am currently employed as Senior Leader in education for the Hallam teaching school – where I support other teachers across many different schools. I have a great many interests outside of school including family, reading, collecting books (mainly Terry Pratchett’s Discworld), walking and writing.

Andrew Lamb

Co-opted Governor

I recently retired as Headmaster of St Peter & St Paul School in Chesterfield where I was appointed Headmaster in 2002. On my appointment the school was in need of considerable re-organisation and by the time I retired, the school was listed in the top 100 Independent Junior Schools in the Sunday Times Parent Power List. While the listing recognised the academic success of the school, I have always believed in the all-round education of children including vital Life Skills. The importance of The Arts and Sport cannot be underestimated and I am looking forward to being involved as a Governor where my grand-daughter is a pupil in Year 2 and another will join the Reception Class in September. Although retired I keep myself busy by volunteering for Ashgate Hospice, being the President of East Midlands Hockey Umpiring Association, umpiring most weekends and canoeing, walking, gardening and DIY during the week while also being involved in a local church.

I certainly hope that as a Governor I will be able to work with others to help the school become the best Primary School in the area using the skills and experience I have had in education over the last 40 years!

Matthew Barnsdale

Co-opted Governor

I joined as a parent Governor in October 2015 and sit on both the full Governing Body and the Resource Managementy Committee and have a responsibility for Early Years. I am married with a son and daughter both of whom attended the school.

I qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and worked for a national surveying firm in Sheffield for over 10 years. In 2009 I established my own property consultancy practice and operate throughout the region. I aim to bring my commercial, financial and business skills to the school and I have a particular interest in ensuring the best utilisation of the school’s resources to improve the pupils’ learning environment.

Jenny Murphy

Staff Governor

Those of you familiar with Hunloke Park will know that I am the Deputy Headteacher and act as Headteacher on Fridays. Outside of work, I have 3 school aged children and am busy keeping up with their various extracurricular activities. I also enjoy walking my dog and keeping in touch with friends and family.

Scott Rhodes

Parent Governor

I currently work as a Senior Design Engineer for a company that design and manufacture high pressure gas cylinders and pressure systems. I live in Wingerworth, both my children attend Hunloke my son (Owen) has just started year 5 and my Daughter (Isabelle) is in Pre-school.

Jack Emmens

Co-opted Governor

I am currently a teacher in upper KS2 and have been a co-opted governor since May 2015. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of our fantastic governing body as we challenge and provide support for the whole school.

During my time at Hunloke, I have taken over as co-ordinator of both Maths and PE, with both being strong interests of mine. Often I can be found participating in some form of sporting activity, whether it is squash, football, tennis, tag-rugby or something completely different. Unfortunately personal sporting success has deserted me, with my only accolade being a wooden spoon award for my team finishing bottom of the league. Thankfully I have had much more success as a coach of many of our school teams!
